Stolen identities?

While things have quieted down a lot in the blogosphere, the "incident" from several weeks back has left a bad taste in a lot of bloggers' mouths. I'm sure you have an idea of what I'm referring to. While all of us have moved on from that rather disconcerting episode, it is almost regrettable that I have to bring to your attention a recent development that should be nipped in the bud. And sadly, it may just be the same characters as before. Several months ago, I introduced a friend and officemate to blogging. You may probably still remember her, her name is Ning. Her blog was named So to Speak... , and it was once located at http://ninggarbo.blogspot.com/ . In the course of maintaining her blog, she apparently made the mistake of entrusting her Blogger account password to another fellow blogger who graciously volunteered to freshen up her template for her. While all was fine at first, she slowly got irked by the fact that this blogger started manipulating her bl...

Unaware of your angel

Foreword: This is a nice and inspiring story that I received through email some time ago. The title posted above is based on the subject heading of that email. Before you proceed, please note that this story is known in some quarters as The Pink Dress and is not owned or copyrighted by anyone under any title, and therefore is considered in the public domain . Contrary to what some people may want you to believe, this was not ripped off from anyone else's blog. That would constitute plagiarism , which I look down on. Considering that this story is in the public domain, it is in fact posted on many different sites and blogs. The original author is unknown, and therefore unattributed. Please know all the facts before jumping to conclusions, and read my disclaimer at the bottom of my sidebar. For a more thorough discussion of this matter, click here . Thank you very much for your time and your interest in learning the truth. (Foreword dated November 23, 2005.) There was this littl...

The positive side of life

Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year. How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on. Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live. Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open. Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them? Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us. If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day, how come nothing is free yet? You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person. Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened. We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. W...

Evolutionism vs. Creationism....

Image
I was bound to write a post about this subject sooner or later, and CL 's comment to my last post ( Is God real? Or is he imaginary? ) virtually prodded me to share my own views on the subject. First of all, I'm neither a paleontologist, nor a man of the cloth, though I have studied and read a lot of material on both fields. Do I consider myself an evolutionist? Well, the quick answer is yes . I do recognize that it is still considered a theory even up to now, but I believe that the theory of evolution has some substance to it, though the depth of its substance has always been and is still open to debate. It admittedly cannot explain all aspects of our origins, but it does manage to answer a lot of questions. Am I a creationist? It depends. As a Catholic, I do believe that God is responsible for creating everything that is around us, even our very selves. If having such a belief defines a creationist, then maybe I am. However, I am not really comfortable with using a blank...

Is God real? Or is he imaginary?

If you found my previous post The Bible is wrong! (duh....) interesting, you should probably visit Why Does God Hate Amputees? by Marshall Brain. Found this page through micketymoc 's blog Stepping On Poop . The page is quite lengthy and comprehensive in the topics it discusses, and if I were asked to describe its contents in one word, I guess that word would have to be: provocative . Here's a brief excerpt: If God is real and God wrote the Bible, then we should certainly post the Ten Commandments in our courthouses and shopping centers, pray in our schools and eliminate the theory of evolution from every curriculum. We should focus our society on God. On the other hand, if God is imaginary, then religion is an illusion. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are pointless. We can eliminate God from our society because God is meaningless. I guess you can see where this is going to. Another post on religion, with possibly a lot of discussion in the wings. Or maybe not. Let's see....

Freshening up your cellphone....

Image
I just feel like making one last post about cellphones before moving on to another topic. It's just amazing how a simple change of covers can breathe new life into a tired, beat-up old cellphone. I recently bought a new, four-piece set of original covers (light grey) for my two year-old Nokia 6600 . After the set was installed, my old cellphone, despite two years of seeing heavy use, could easily be mistaken for being newly bought. I was originally planning on selling it, but I guess I'll be holding on to it for a bit longer. :-) So, if you feel like you could use a new phone, maybe you could just do instead with a simple change of covers. It definitely works for me. :-) My old Nokia 6600 with new covers. The scratched, dented and faded set of old covers (rose color).

A good hearted lawyer

One afternoon a wealthy lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the roadside eating grass. Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and he got out to investigate. He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?" "We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass." "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you" the lawyer said. "But sir. I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree" Bring them along," the lawyer replied. Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You come with us also." The second man, in a pitiful voice then said, "But sir, I also have a wife and SIX children with me!" "Bring them all, as well," the lawyer answered. They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine was. Once underway, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, ...
