Dissecting the double standard....

Why is it that we look at things differently depending on whether it's a man or a woman who does something? Think about it. We tend to be guilty of this at times without even realizing it. It's 2005. Women as a gender have gone much further than they ever did before, and if the present trend continues, we will be seeing a lot more of women in fields which used to be exclusively the domain of men. Nowadays you'd be hard pressed to name one profession in which women have not entered. The idea of men being totally superior to women is a long outdated and obsolete concept which is hardly ever brought up anymore, except for the occassional retort of some male chauvinists who still manage to survive in this day and age. Of course, some of the stereotypes live on. Every time there's a bad driver on the road, there are still those who assume it to be a female. Women, while now allowed in various armed forces around the world, are still not routinely assigned to frontline duty a...

On getting married

More forwarded email. Just for laughs...:-) I was a very happy person. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only one little thing bothering me...it was her beautiful younger sister. My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight miniskirts, and generally was bra-less. She would regularly bend down when she was near me, and I always got more than a pleasant view of her private parts. It had to be deliberate. She never did it when she was near anyone else. One day the "little" sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn't overcome. She told me that she wanted to make love to me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister. Well, I was in total shock and couldn't say a word. She said, "I'm going upstairs to my bedroom...

Worse Things

A mother enters her daughter's bedroom and sees a letter on the pillow. With a worst premonition, hands trembling, she reads it. It is with great sorrow that I'm telling you I've eloped with my new boyfriend. I found real passion and he is so nice, with all his piercings and tattoos and his big motorcycle. But it's not only that mom, I'm pregnant and Ahmed said that we will be very happy in his trailer in the woods. He wants to have many more children with me, and that's one of my dreams, too. I've learned that marijuana doesn't hurt anyone, and we'll be growing it for ourselves and his friends, who are providing us with all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we'll pray for scientists to find a cure for AIDS so that Ahmed can get better, which he deserves. Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now, and I know how to take care of myself. Some day I'll visit for you to know your grandchildren. Your daughter, Judith PS: Mom, i...

Road trip sightings....

Image
The other daya a friend and I drove all the way to Trece Martires in Cavite to attend a christening. As luck would have it, we took a wrong turn and ended up being lost for approximately 26 kilometers. Well, I had my camera on tow, so I took a few shots of the places we passed through, documenting the loss of our bearings and sense of direction. We did make it though. :-) SM City in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Nowadays you can find an SM everywhere. Tejeros Elementary School in General Trias, Cavite. I've been told that General Trias was an ancestor of singer Jasmine Trias . It's impolite to stare. Our destination, Nusa Dua Farm Estates in Trece Martires. This is a shot of the clubhouse pool.

Deep

One of my favorite songs. Pure simplicity...yet lives up to its title. Deep Binocular So this is what you mean And this is how you feel So this is how you see And this is how you breathe Sometimes I know Sometimes I go down deep Oh So this is what you mean And this is how you feel So this how you see And this is how you breathe Sometimes I know Sometimes I go down deep Oh Beneath the deep blue sea Touching every breath All a slight off hand For everything you left Sometimes I know Sometimes I go down deep Oh Sometimes I give myself for you Sometimes I know down deep

Childhood Memories of Food....

A meme from ScrewedUp AKA SnglGuy . This is for you Guy. :-) 5 Childhood Memories of Food Nips - The local version of M&M's plain chocolate candies. As far as I can tell, the earliest memories I have of candy involve Nips. Its been a while since I last had any, and every time I see a packet in a grocery store, for a split-second I go backwards in time and remember when I was three or four years old. At that age, candy always seemed to cheer me up. Actually it still does. :-) Paksiw na bangus - Milkfish cooked in vinegar (see basic recipe here ). Still a favorite of mine, and makes my mouth water just thinking about it. :-) Just imagine, the sour-spicy taste of plump milkfish simmered in vinegar, ginger and chili peppers. Well, the childhood memory was of a time when a milkfish bone ( tinik ) once got lodged in my throat. I was told to try eating bananas, then bread, then drinking a glass of milk in an effort to dislodge the bone. Eventually, we resorted to an old wives' ...

The Rope

The story tells about a mountain climber who wanted to climb the highest mountain. He began his adventure after many years of preparation, but since he wanted the glory just for himself, he decided to climb the mountains alone. The night fell heavily in the heights of the mountain, and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visibility, and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds. As he was climbing, only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air. Falling at the great speed the climber could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity. He kept falling and in those moments of great fear, it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life. He was thinking now about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard. His body was hanging in the air ? only the rope was holding him. And in that moment of stillness he had n...
