The past week's quotable quotes....

"The holiday itself is the last Sunday of August. So no holiday on Monday."

- Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, on August 27.

August 29 was subsequently declared a holiday. What's with these people? Can't they even make up their minds?

“If we don’t get to play, why stage basketball at all?”

“Let’s not give another country the chance to win the gold medal that is surely ours.”

- Former POC President Celso Dayrit, on August 29.

Surely it will be disappointing if the Philippines would be unable to play in the basketball tournament in the next SEAG, but do we really have to resort to crab mentality? If we can't play, no one else can play? Ganun ba yun?

"Pa-endorse mo na."

- Former DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, quoting a statement allegedly made by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in reference to Oliver Lozano's impeachment complaint filed on June 27, in a press conference last August 30.

If true, it establishes the premise that the initial impeachment complaint filed by Lozano was definitely part of an attempt by Malacañang to manipulate the impeachment proceedings in Congress. Whatever happened to the concept of separation of powers? Is the President really taking us all for fools, pretending to be willing to be subjected to the proper constitutional processes to establish her innocence, yet orchestrating all the events that took place from behind the scenes?

"It's very simple. We should do what we preach. We preach against gambling, we should not receive money from gambling."

- Fr. Raul Fernandez, in an interview published in the PDI on September 3.

The Church has been reported to have accepted substantial donations from PAGCOR. Talk about hypocrisy.

"The poor will not be affected once the expanded value added tax is implemented."
