Themes for Series 60 phones....

One of the questions that I find myself often being asked is: "Where do you get the themes installed on your cell phone?"

Well, I just tell them that I download them for free from the internet. I often get a lot of obfuscated looks from people who have actually went to Virra Mall in Greenhills and actually paid just to have themes installed on their phones.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comThe truth is, a lot of sites actually offer these themes free for download, and the only price of admission is a PC with internet access (obviously) and a USB port. Most newer cellphones nowadays come with a USB cable right out of the box. Some older models, like my Nokia 6600, connect only wirelessly, either through infrared or bluetooth, so you should have a working adapter of either of those types installed on your PC if you want to try uploading themes.

In fact, I'd even recommend you get a bluetooth adapter for your PC if you have a lot of devices which support it. It can be a real timesaver when transferring data, as you don't have to fiddle with cables. Infrared technology on the other hand, while still being supported by most current devices, is slowly being phased out of the spec sheet of newer ones. For example, the Nokia 6680 which I seem to be keen on purchasing doesn't have an infrared port.

So if you have a Series 60 phone which supports themes (like the Nokia 6600, 6620, 6630, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6260, 3230, 7610, etc., the Siemens SX1, or perhaps other brands and models) you can download themes for free from these sites:

Themes for Nokia 6600/7610 - Opera Mobile Zone - My Opera Community
Free Nokia 6600 Themes - Downloads Now Nokia 6600
Download nokia theme, 6600 free nokia theme, free nokia theme
Nokia 6600 / 7610 / 6630 Free Themes - Phoneyworld.com
Symbian Themes

Don't worry if your phone isn't listed, if it's a relatively recent Series 60 model, the themes will install and work just fine. All Series 60 Nokia models from the 6600 onwards support themes as a standard feature.

If you're a Sony Ericsson fan, some of the sites listed above also have sections for various Sony Ericsson models as well. I was never really a fan of Sony Ericsson (though they do make some outstanding phones) so I haven't really explored what can be downloaded for them.

Hope someone finds this information helpful. :-)
