Remember the Eraserheads?
Remember the Eraserheads? The Eraserheads was the Pinoy band of the 90s, responsible for bringing alternative Pinoy rock into the mainstream, and sparking the resurgence of band-based original Pilipino music (OPM).
Consisting of four University of the Philippines (UP) students Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raymund Marasigan, the quartet often referred to as "the Beatles of the Philippines" because of their innovative and experimental styles rocked their way through the 90s and the early part of the new millenium with no less than eight full albums, two extended play (EP) albums, and a compilation of their greatest hits.
Sadly, the E-heads, as they were fondly known, disbanded in 2002.
But not without leaving us a legacy of music that remains very popular to this day. Virtually all of their albums, from their first, Ultraelectromagneticpop, followed by Circus, Cutterpillow, Fruitcake, Sticker Happy, Aloha Milkyway, Natin99, and Carbon Stereoxide have been commercial successes, with numerous singles which have climbed through the charts. Even their songs which haven't been released as singles have been popular as well, a testament to their creativity and musical proficiency.
Fast forward a few years, and it seems as if we haven't heard the last of their music.
Two days ago I bought a copy of Ultraelectomagneticjam, an album consisting of old E-heads songs covered by today's popular artists and bands, including South Border, Sugarfree, Radioactive Sago Project, Orange and Lemons, Kitchie Nadal, Barbie Almalbis, Paolo Santos, and Francis M just to name a few.
If you're a fan of E-heads music, you just can't pass up this CD. Its definitely worth actually buying the CD for, instead of downloading bootleg MP3s. :-)

i've already listened to the new tribute album, i got it for a present from a friend of mine for the new year, i intended to write a review post about it but unwittingly, the purist in me(as you thankfully drawn out) got the better of it. Now i'm thinking if I should go on with writing that review of mine, what do you think?
People either love it a lot, or hate it a lot. :-)
As for me, I'd rather be a moderate on this issue, at least for now. There are a lot of other issues more worth being extremely conservative or radical about. :-)
Suffice it to say that I agree with you that it does not, and will not, ever even come close to the level of the original. That being said, I'll still rip the tracks and throw them in my MP3 player. :-)
