Today is National Heroes Day. It is a national holiday commemorated every last Sunday of August. It was instituted on October 29, 1931 by virtue of Act No. 3827 as a means of paying homage to all those who fought and struggled for our freedom, including those whose names are forever lost in the annals of history.

"There can be no tyrants where there are no slaves."

- Jose Rizal

Note:

Pursuant to Proc. No. 901, August 29 has been declared a non-working holiday. Covered by the holiday are all government offices except the Bureau of Customs, and all public and private schools.
