Labor Day....

The very first Philippine Labor day was held in May 1, 1902 by Dr. Dominador Gomez (incidentally, Dr. Gomez was a freemason). Six years later, Act No. 1818 was passed, officially declaring May 1 as Labor day.

Traditionally, Labor day has been a time for labor organizations to demonstrate their unity and solidarity and to call on the government for increased wages, benefits and rights for workers. Sometimes these activities inevitably take on some political color. And on occassion violence has been known to break out especially when tensions are high.

Above anything else, it is on this day that we recognize the efforts of the ordinary workers and acknowledge the vital role they play in nation building.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinong manggagawa!
