Solo Parenthood....

Nowadays, it isn't enough just to be a solo parent. You actually have to have an ID now to prove it. :-) After a somewhat lengthy wait, I finally got mine:

Solo Parent ID

Don't mind my picture, I was under a lot of stress at the time. :-) The issuance of a Solo Parent ID is in line with the provisions of R.A. 8972 also known as the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000. Among other things, it entitles a solo parent to an additional seven days of leave, known as parental leave. If you're a single parent and interested in the benefits and requirements for solo parents, visit this page on the DSWD web site. A word of warning though. The ID is kinda huge :-)

What if I show a court order awarding sole custody to me? Ok lang kaya yon?

That makes you even all the more qualified. :-) I presented an annulment decision granting joint custody. :-)

Buti ka pa annuled na. Ako in the works pa lang... I only went as far as the custody pa lang.

It took about three years. The decision came out in 2002. All I need now...is a new wife! :-) hahahaha

Hi Ronald, I am an OFW here in the UK. Almost 3 years na ako dito now fusto ko na sanang kunin yung anak ko. Isa kasi sa mga requirement ay dapat ma-prove ko na solo parent ako.Pinalaki ko isya mag-isa mula nung 6 years old pa lang siya now 16 na siya. Yun lang ayaw magbigay nung local DSWD sa amin kasi daw dapat personal akong mag-apply. Mayroon bang ibagng paraan para makakuha ako na hindi na ako uuwi dyan?

Hi Rey. Pwede mo siguro subukan mag-apply using an SPA designating someone to apply for you plus mga supporting documents, but there's no guarantee the DSWD will grant you the ID. It may even backfire...because the ID was meant to give certain benefits to solo parents here...not solo parents outside the country.

The easiest way, unfortunately is for you to apply in person when you get back.

If you just need proof of solo parenthood for use there, perhaps an affidavit may help.
